There is a beautiful and expansive body of water that stretches across Oneida and Vilas Counties. Squaw Lake welcomes all types of recreation over its 785 acres – you’ll find fisherman, runabouts, pontoons, and silent sport enthusiasts who continue their explorations down Squaw Creek. There is room for everyone here without the lake feeling congested!

Holidays can be the busiest times for the lake – with the Fourth of July bringing the most excitement as the homeowners partake in a boat parade! After meeting at the boat landing, they parade their festively decorated watercraft around the entire lake.

Summer weekends on the lake are filled with plenty of play – swimming, tubing, and waterskiing are activities enjoyed by many. And as fun-filled days on the water come to a close, boaters will slow things down to enjoy a sunset cruise around the entire nine miles of shoreline.

Wildlife are thriving and the fishing is excellent on Squaw Lake. A recent study of the lake found the fish population to contain healthy musky, walleye, crappie, and smallmouth bass. As part of the study they temporarily captured walleye over 28”, smallies over 22”, and several musky over 42”. The lake is also home to two breeding pair of loons and is a migratory stop for ducks and geese. Bald eagles patrol the shoreline for their next meal, while a wide array of creatures make their home in and around the lake. Otters and beavers, fox, coyotes, deer, black bears, and a host of songbirds share Squaw Lake with all who come to enjoy it.

Fall is an exceptionally beautiful time at the lake. The birch, maple, and aspen trees provide a breathtaking show of color across the shoreline – this is always a relaxing time to cruise slowly around the lake to take in the beauty on display. The scene changes to bright snow throughout the winter while snowmobilers and ice fishermen take their turn enjoying the frozen lake.
